at the river...

We usually have to go to the Verde River (about 5 miles north of Payson) at least once each year...

Here are this year's highlights...

...sword-fighting with the reeds...

...Dayla...skipping rocks...

...Angie...trying to skip rocks...

...Kevin's turn...(he always has to figure out the most efficient way to do everything... ...he's such an engineer!)

...mud facials make you be-oo-ti-ful...

...and so-o-o strong...

and quite creative...

...climbing rocks is always fun...

...so is burying Angie in the sand...

R.I.P. Angie dear...

DaNelle just wants to take a nap...

...while Grandpa & GrammyScilla watch from a safe distance...

alas! ...another fun day at the river has come and gone...

Les Miz...

It's not that nothing happened in June...
I'm just slow in posting...

Kevin and Rusty are missing in this picture...

I guess they were still trying to find a parking space...

'Les Miseràbles' has always been one of our family's favorite productions...
The story line is so poignant & moving and demonstrates great examples of love and sacrifice...

...not to mention, the music & lyrics are

awesome, tremendous and simply amazing!!!

...we always go when we get the opportunity...at least up until now...

While the music score was still very impressive, with new & unbelievable performances and the stage scenery was detailed & realistic, the new director had included a few (one in particular) very graphic scenes that left a cloud of negativity and trepidation for the remainder of the production.

Why can't everyone just 'seek after things that are virtuous, lovely and of good report'...?

oh yeah...that agency thing...sigh

a good Mother's Day...

Yes...I had a good Mother's Day...

...one of the best...

...my children all gathered around...

...and brought food...

...and flowers...and dark chocolate...

and gifts from the heart:

...the darlings had collaborated and each brought some special (positive) memories that I truly am grateful for...

They even made custom cards...

...from Todd & Becky...

...thanks...Todd & Becky you are both a blessing to me...

...from Kevin

...yes Kevin, you are amazing...thanks for being my son...

and marrying DaNelle...

...who is an awesome daughter-in-law...

...and having such wonderful kids...

...and being such great parents...

...from Dayla...

...yes, Dayla I am proud of you...you are fabulous...

...from Rusty...

Rusty's memories included the many 'good' movies they watched
(over and over)

most of them being the animated musical classics...

...'Bedknobs & Broomsticks' was one of the favorites...

I'm sure his love for music started with these musicals as well...

...thanks Rust, for being so unique and sensitive...

...from Angie...

...thanks Ang, for staying sweet & thoughtful...

...good memories are the best...

...thanks my darlings...I love you!!!

Bowman Easter Hike...

I remember as a child the fun times we had in Mexico @ the Dublan Ward annual Easter Hikes...

...they were always in the same beautiful spot down by the river under giant oak trees...

...first there would be a huge 'egg hunt'...

(there were random names of adults on some of them and if you were lucky enough to find one, you could 'sell' the egg to the 'owner' for a peso or two...)
....next was always a huge potluck dinner...(lunch was always called dinner in the colonies - that was actually one of the big adjustments to living in the 'states') I remember sloppy joes and potato salad
and always the traditional 'Fanta naranja' in the bottle...
(this still brings back memories whenever I find one...)

...after lunch there would be sack races - games of 'red rover' & 'chin-chi-la-hua' - and always the highlight of a 50' high rope/board swing that swung higher & higher until we would scream with fright & delight...(the girls wouldn't be released until they revealed the dreaded name of the 'boyfriend'...)

...it was great fun to be able to ride horses to and from the 'hike'... but one (not so pleasant) memory was riding a horse back home when I was about 7...

I was riding 'double' behind Judy Wagner and some boys came from behind and spooked our horse...he took off running, knocking both of us off...my foot got caught in the stirrup and I was dragged several yards before it came loose...my dad was close behind and immediately determined that I was OK...a little scraped up and sported a nice scab on my face for a while,
but 'none the worse for the wear'...

This year - 2011 - Kevin & DaNelle hosted an Easter Hike
(picnic sounds too girly)
in their backyard...
...it is virtually a child's paradise from the awesome treehouse
(which includes a rope bridge and fireman pole)

to a strategically placed trampoline and all the farm animals to suit your heart's content...

...they even accomodated us with newly born puppies (poodle & shihtzu mix)
and 2 batches of baby goats...

...I preferred holding Brad & Katy's 6-week old twin girls...
......

...so cute and sweet...

...Hudson (Jake & Haylee's youngest) loved the slide...
3 little monkeys...up in a tree...

Alec...Ethan...and Caitlin...
...good food all around... (next year it's sloppy joes...)
...Hudson again...

...boy cousins...I mean...Men Cousins...
Todd - Jake - Kevin - Rusty - Brad

...the pretty young things with one old woman...
Haylee - DaNelle - GramScilla - Katy (& 1 baby) - Becky

...everybody loved the baby goats...

...especially Rian and Lydia...

Thanks Kevin & DaNelle for providing the perfect spot to get together...

See you next year...!!!
